How much can you eat?
Well guys I am getting worried a little bit. I am finding that I can eat more and more, and I don't have to chew as well as I was, and I can eat bigger bites and faster. It still takes me awhile to eat a meal, but for example tonight for dinner I made broiled chicken breasts. I ate almost 1/2 of a small chicken breast!! And I didn't feel sick or very horribly full afterwards. I ate a teeny tiny bite (like 1/2 teaspoon) of rice and 1 Tablespoon of sunflower seeds. (I ate these about 5 min. before dinner)
And I can eat an entire 1/2- 2/3 cup beans, I can gulp milk down, I can eat 8 oz. of yogurt at once, 1/2 6" sub from Subway at once, it just seems like a lot.
How much can you eat? Am I crazy? Or is this normal? Has everyone been experiencing this? HELP!!
Thanks!

I am so glad that you had the courage to post this. I find that I also can eat more than 4oz per meal and I do not get real full. I am usually satified and I do not want to eat more basically because I know that I am not supposed to. But I really think that that is normal. I think that if we pushed the buck too much we would know it. The theory is that it is impossible to stretch your pouch with fluids but I am beginning to wonder if that is true. Keep in mind thaat yogart, milk are thin and they go bown easy. are you able to eat bread?????
I have always felt i can eat to much in a sitting.
I have always felt i can eat to fast.
I dont have too chew chew chew, accept my steak.
I just try to keep the healthy choices....eat and fill up
on the proteins and then some veggie and not much
carbs.. Bread ..pastas, rice and potatoes...just a taste or two.
I did hear that our appetites do return but i didnt think
this soon. I am looseing and i am working out too. I find
since i started at the gym that i can eat more and literally
NEED to eat more after workouts. I can tolerate bread fine
but i try not to eat it. I doo have lo carb wraps....
I eat more then 4 oucnes just two often!!! ALWAYS was able too. I never drink soda...never drink with my meals that i keep away from as i heard that can STRETCh our pouches. I imagine were doing well as long as we are looseing. SOOOooooo hard! and to think some think this was an easy way out!

I could have written this part Lisa " I have always felt i can eat to much in a sitting. I have always felt i can eat to fast. I dont have too chew chew chew, accept my steak. I just try to keep the healthy choices....eat and fill up on the proteins and then some veggie and not much carbs.. Bread ..pastas, rice and potatoes...just a taste or two."
I still weigh my food at home, but could easily eat more than the 4 oz, I just don't, LOL It's not easy sometimes. I have been able to do the entire 4 oz since the first month, I don't get sick. BUT I have not put any real sugar in my mouth yet, I prefer to think it will make me dump, I don't want to find out outherwise, LOL
The milk and yogurt will go down easily, they are liquids, jus****ch the calories in things like that. My biggest downfall is my evening ice cream, LOL, it's SF or NAS, but I have to keep small individual servings or I would eat too much and the calories would add up.
We can do this!!!!!

Tiffany,
I really feel like a minority after reading the replies!
I can not eat breakfast! There is nothing that will go down! For lunch I eat 1 oz piece of white cheese (farmer, provolone, swiss) and have to force myself to eat supper. Last night I had a 1/4 piece of canadian bacon and about 8 green beans. Not much food....but I do get my protein in via the drinks.......helps with the fluids too. I can not eat beef, chicken, pork, eggs, or fish. They all give me problems.....instant laxative or laying down in pain.......so I avoid all of them. That leaves me with turkey...bocca burgers....and cheese. I am getting very tired of trying to come up with a unique way to eat turkey.....so I don't eat and that isn't good for me and my surgeon is very concerned. I had my gallbladder out 3 weeks ago in the hopes that my body would process the foods easier but so far no luck! I can't do breads either!
I did go to our support group on Monday and the very question you asked was addressed. They said.....what would you have eaten before surgery? Eating 1/2 of a chicken breast is a good choice! So you have to look at what you are eating and such.
I choose not to eat between meals because that is what got me into trouble in the past. I eat only at meal time.....I don't want to graze or get into the habit of snacking!

GLAD to hear im not the only one witht he huge appetite.
I cant help add i do eat 6 or 7 times a day...small meals i guess. THATS what my nutritionist wants. I think were all doing fine but we all have fear of the eating the way we did before surgery.
I know if we fill on the right foods we will remain happy and healthy. I eat sugar free ice cream but only the labels that have less then 5 grams of sugar i am very strict. I buy individual ice cream bars to avoid eatign to much! I eat the store brand here PATHMARD sugar free vanilla w/ the chocolate coating bars! I have them maybe 3 nights a week for a treat. USUALLY on the nights i do the gym....its a nice reward when im home from the gym!
i will add to what i said previous if i over eat a large portion at one meal the next meal i definitely eat less. go figure...anyway thats all for now glad we have each other to run these things by!
ALL THE BEST everyone

I definately know how you are feeling. I emailed my surgeon about this same issue yesterday. I spoke with the office this morning and they are having me do an upper GI. They cannot believe how much I am eating. I just thought it was me and that maybe something was wrong with my surgery. I do not get sick have never :puke: and tollerate everything (even sugar). Sometimes I think it is all in my head about the surgery and that it never happened! Crazy huh!?!
I am glad to see that I am not alone with this. It really scares the
out of me that I can eat so much.

I cannot eat as much as most of you are reporting. If I forget and drink with my meal, I get nasuated and lose what ever I just ate. I have to chew chew chew. Green beans french sliced are good. Crockpot meals are good. Lean Cusuines and other healthy frozen dinners still cannot be tolerated. Not even half. 1/2 cup SF low carb ice cream--not a problem. cheese not a problem. Mashed potatoes and lots of chesse melted in it does great. Steak only a tiny tiny bite or it all comes back. My surgeon doesn't want to do the stoma stretch until more time has passed. He says most of the need goes away by itself. I'm going to try salad this weekend.
Does this sound like anyone else at our stage? Oh, I can eat 4 sausage balls(bisquit, cheese and sausage) without getting sick. That is about as much as I can handle. Without protein powder mixed in ice cream, pudding and cool whip I would be in big trouble.
I sure hope I'm not the only one.
I have a similar situation. Sometimes I can eat a decent amount but as long as it is soft and easy to chew and digests well. Dense and hard stuff forget it. I can eat meat as long as it is well cooked and very tender but I do not vomit anything back up except for some Chinese noodles which I should have known better than to eat. I don't do the protein powder as much and try to eat meats more but sometimes it is impossible..... Just keep trying things that work for you. I found that creamed minced beef was one thing I could eat and it works well for me where stuff like refried beans are just dreadful.....
