Hi, my name is Steve. I had the gastric bypass in Dec. 2003, I lost 100lbs pre-op and 200lbs post-op. My highest weight was 705lbs. I would like to know if anyone has had the BPD Surgery after having the gastric bypass.

GO TO YOUR DOCTOR!!!! If you ever feel any weridness in your belly (no matter the source) go to your doctor. Sometimes complications don't start until way down the road for no reason...not just after surgery. Your doctor is the one that can help you. If they say it's nothing and it still feels like something go back or see another doctor to make sure. Alot of complications do not feel like pain but are more like pressure. Make sure to talk to your doctor please.
I think there are alot of gastric friendly cookie receipes so if you did graze it wouldn't be as bad as full on sugar cookies. South Beach and Weigh****chers has alot of good receipes I've heard. Alot of people say the gastric friendly cookies are as good as normal cookies but much better for you so the kids and you would like them. I think your supposed to divert your attention when you want to graze. Like when your eyeing those cookies maybe exercise instead...walking around the neighborhood. Some people recommend getting something to do in the house (a bike or video tape, etc).
This is just information I've heard from support groups and research.
Good luck with everything and let us know how your doing.

Good luck!!! Everything will go great I am sure! Look forward to recovering and losing all of that weight! My nutritionist said not to worry about iron supplements until we are about 3 months out and can swallow little pills. I still plan on taking it in a chewable or liquid form to help my pouch out. Every nutritionist, surgeon, and hospital has it's own unique program for vitamins and diet. Ask your nutritionist to make sure you are following your program and they should be able to recommend a supplement that is good for you and where to get it. Remember to let us know how you are doing once you feel up to it!

Did you have lap band surgery? I know people with lap band it is same day surgery and you go home very quickly. For RNY gastric bypass it is more of a major surgery with incisions to major organs and rearranging your inner bits. I think they cut less holes in lap banders too.

Topic: RE: PRE OP DIET
We are not required to lose any weight or have any kind of special diet pre-op. The only thing is to not eat or drink anything after midnight the day before surgery...but that's most surgeries. I am glad I wasn't required to lose weight before surgery...if I could do it on my own then I wouldn't need the surgery. I would have tried really hard...but it would have been very stressful. The surgery is like a forced voluntary food addiciton intervention for me at least. I could do my own diet program for awhile...but 20 lbs is alot to lose before they let you have surgery. ~Christal/dionysus_star
