almost 5 weeks out
Viv have you tried putting that protein powder (a 1/4 cup) into SF pudding? Did you know you can get 10 gr of protein by eating it mixed into pudding? I eat one of those for breakfast each morning - just mix in the protein powder into the milk WELL before you add the SF pudding mix - beat for two minutes and chill you'll geet 4 - half cup servings of power pudding (the choclate is to die for) It also depends on What brand of protein you're using too - I got a sample box of Isopure - it had 5 or 6 flavors in it Isopure is better than Walmart brand Whey powder (but even that tastes good mixed well in SF pudding it's amazing... it's like desert all the time!
Try it - I'm 5 weeks out too, and I'm eating almost anything except red meat and that I have to wait until May 9th - to eat, then doc says I can eat anything I want to in small portions. Sooo you're almost there too so hang in there. Try some SF pudding for a treat.

Hi Vivian,
I am 6 weeks out on Thursday. I hated each of the protien powders I tried. But I kept trying and trying different ones. I just wish they would sell them in smaller containers. Anytime I would see someone in my area talk about how they loved this product or that product, I would ask if I could come get a little sample. Most folks said yes. So I tried a bunch. 99.9% of them made me gag. Even when put in pudding or Crystal Lite or milk or whatever.
I did find one though that I could work with (although, with all the recent talk about the test tube stuff...I might have to try that). The one I use is called Nectar. You can google it or they have it in places like the Vitamin Shoppe (not sure if they have those where you are though).
There are two things I like about the Nectar powder. First, it is like a pixie stick in taste. So much so, that you can literally eat it right out of the container. Yet, it is still less than 100 calories for 24g of protein. Right now, I am mixing 1 scoop with about 4 oz of Crystal Lite Fruit Punch, in a paper cup. I mix it with a spoon, gently, until all the powder is absorbed. In my blender, I mix about 2 or 3 cut up strawberries, about 1/3 of a bannana, enough crushed ice to cover the fruit, and then add about 3 to 4 oz of the Crystal Lite Fruit Punch. I hit it with the blender until everything is smooth. THEN I pour in the Nectar mixture. I dump it all in a cup and stir it again (gently). I end up a with a fruit shake that has no hint of the protein that's in it.
I will switch up the fruit depending on what is in the house, but I have really gotten hooked on them. I am now being required to get from 110 to 135 g of protein so the only way I can keep up is the protein shakes.
Just keep trying things. You will eventually hit on something that works.
As a change from the ordinary stuff, I occasionally get some lump crab meat and mix it up with some no-fat mayo. Add some good spices and it is a nice change from chicken and tuna! I have also been broiling some Talapia fillets. They are good and light, with high protein. Just don't over cook them...they get dry and won't sit well.
Good luck,
Dave
I can't stand the protein powders either. I can choke down the IDS whey protein "bullets", but I don't like them either. I get quesy for an hour after I drink them! However, I bought some protein bars at the Vitamin Shoppe. They have 32 grams of protein. I usually eat 1/2 of one around 3:00 p.m. and it it gets my protein up. I also eat a lot of chicken (not real exciting, but better than protein shakes.) I also buy the South Beach Diet frozen meals and eat 1/2 for lunch. The one I had today had 33 grams of protein (so I still got 16 1/2 grams out of it.) I started w/ a BMI of 40, am about 5 weeks out and lost 32 pounds. I am happy with that!!!!
I haven't tried the Sout Beach frozen meals. Are they good? How many carbs, sugars, and fat grams do they generally have? I have shied away from those because I thought they would be higher than what I am allowed to eat. I am not supposed to eat anything with more than 3g of sugar or 3g of fat per serving.
Sounds like you are doing great with the weight loss! I am so happy for you!

I have not tried the SB frozen meals...although I have a couple of the wraps in the freezer right now. I am just afraid of the wrap itself as I am having trouble with any sort of bread.
BTW...which of the SB meals have so much protein? All the ones I looked at had 18 - 20 gram of protein! Even if I have to split them across two meals...it would be nice to find a couple with loads of protein in them.
I have however started using the South Beach meal replacement bars. I spoke to my Nutritionist (she wanted us to stay under 5g fat and 5g of suger per) and she said they are fine (as long as you don't add anything to it for the meal). So, once a day, I have one of them for a meal. They take me about 25-30 minutes to get down and they really do satisfy me. They run about 200 - 220 calories, 18-20 g of protein and 6-7g of fat.
I am 6 weeks out on Thursday and have dropped 49lbs. But guys tend to drop the lbs a bit quicker than you ladies. I am now trying to get in the 110 to 135g of protein. Not an easy task. I am going to give one of the test tubes a try tomorrow. Should be interesting!
Good luck,
Dave
Hi David
i will also be 6 weeks out on the 25 of april . You were saying that you are trying differnent protein powders well I found one that is pretty good and I am not a fan of milk or protein . But I found on that is called Body Fortress 100% Premium Whey Protein Powder it cames in 3 flavors I got the vanilla and I mix it with skim milk but I found a milk brand called Mootopia by H.E.B. it has less sugar and 14 gm of protein also so it doesn't leave a film or after taste in your mouth . Hope you can try it if you get a chance . good luck to you
god bless
Cyndi ;-)
