Hi Rick. NYC was great as always. The energy of the city is fun to absorb. I'm always glad, however, to return home to my small town and my husband! We did walk a lot. I walked about 8 miles total yesterday!
I opted for a glass of wine instead of a cosmo. We were at a Greek restaurant for dinner and the Greek chardonnay looked yummy. It was!
Happy Wednesday!
Hugs, Stephanie

Gee can't I get half credit for the protein decision??? I know I don't really deserve any credit for exercise...but since I get full credit for vitamins and water...at least I can get 1/2 credit for protein since 75% of the time what goes in is protein!!!! Even nuts have SOME protein!

I'll warn you I walked out of the theatre with tears rolling down my cheek after we saw the movie. Of course only in a manly sort of way. Just kidding, I am such a woose (that probably isn't spelled right, but you get the idea).
Have a great day, Rick

I think that once you are back to 100% you will be better able to stay on top of the priorities in your life. You just need to let your body heal and the rest will come naturally.
I don't know what to tell you about meat. Maybe ground meat would digest easier or there is always cottage cheese. I hope your nutristionist is able to give you some positive suggestions.
Take care, Rick

Stephanie,
I hope you had a good time in NYC. Did you get your cosmo in?
Good for your for planning ahead and taking your water. I'm sure you did lots of walking and that has to count for something.
Take care, Rick
Topic: RE: 1200 Cals a Day???
Hi Rebeka,
There is a neat formula for determining what your calorie intake should be. It's called the Harris Benedict Formula. If you will send me a personal email, I'll send you the Excel spread sheet with all of the formulas in tact. You just add your info and it will tell you how many calories you should eat to lose or maintain.
[email protected]
Anyone else who would like the spreadsheet can email me as well.
If I do not exercise at all, I can eat 1437 calories a day and maintain my current weight. With my exercise level at moderate (3-5x a week) I can eat 2228 cals a day to maintain. To lose weight I would have to cut that amount by the desired amount of weight I want to lose per week. 1 lbs a week = 3500 cal so I would have to keep a moderate level of exercise and cut the 2228 cals/day down by 500 cals/day to lose one lb a week.
It's a really cool formula. Of course some of our metabolisms are not the best but this is a pretty good estimate. Just to let you know - for light exercise (1-3x a week) the cal/day is 1976.
Hugs, Robin

Barbara,
Surely you can count some of this as exercising. Just think how much you had to type. You're fingers must have been flying across the keyboard.
It sounds like you have developed a plan that works for you as far as your vitamins and water are concerned.
I'm glad the gym wasn't too expensive. I'm sure you will get your use out of it overtime.
Have a great day, Rick

Stephanie,
What is it with homework. I think we all put it off as long as possible. We are raising our 10 year old grandson and we fight with homework every night. I know the last thing he want to do when he gets home from school is more homework, but it has to get done.
Today my challenge is to get out and walk. It was 12 degrees this morning and we have about 10 inches of snow on the ground so it is quite slick.
Have a great day, Rick

I feel like I've fallen and I can't get up!
this week I'm back to work 5 days and get home exhausted (napped Monday afternoon after work, yesterday I slept from 5pm til this morning and all I can think of is going back to bed). Maybe its my iron, maybe its just trying to get back in the swing of things, maybe not taking my vitamins regularly the first year post op is catching up with me? I'm not sure, but I dont like it
Looking at your priorities list I have to say the only thing I do daily is get my water in. I've looked at my food journal and some days I'm not getting in even 60 grams including a shake. The of course theres missing the second calcium pill... Exercise is a null right now because of the foot thing.. Driving to work today I was thinking... I really think I could live most days just on liquids (protein shakes, drinkable yogurts, v-8 juice for veggies) and peanut butter...
its not that i dont like meats, I do, but i dont like the long feeling of digesting them so I dont eat them as often as i should. Carbs are so comfortable in my pouch that I could eat them day and night, but protein....
I have an appt with the nutritionist in March so I'll bring it up then, til then I'll try and add a second shake to my priority list and get the protein number to where it should be.
thanks for pointing out our needs and priorities, we all know what we have to do, but its great seeing it and making it more of a reality!
