Hi all, Im home from the Hospital. I guess Im doing pretty well. Food and me have become sort of enemies, we're not liking each other right now. All the pouch seems to tolerate is cold, wet food. Ice water, freeze pops, jello and watermelon. I seem to be able to tolerate sugar since nothing Im eating is sugar free. I know Im a bad girl. Also, when I try to breathe deep it hurts and I cant get a full sigh or yawn out, my lungs cut it sort, is that normal? Or did any one else experience it? Since your first month is still in your HONEST memories, can you rehash them for me? And maybe give me your progress to let me know it will get better? I had eggs for breakfast this morning.. did well with them, but here they sit, in my pouch, like a ton of bricks.

Hello Jessica, I am happy everything went well for you! My first month was kind of like hit n miss when it came to food, and I wasnt allowed to have watermelon so soon out! I guess every doctor is different. Just take it slow and drink all your water , now is the time to get yourself use to drinking as much as you can and dont make the mistake I did dont drink after you eat, or you will lose your cookies...The pain you feel in the rib area is normal God knows what they do when were under and the rib spreader doesn't help it , could be gas also from the anesthesia, this will take a couple of months to leave your system. Took me a few weeks to get it right. Make sure you take your vitamins also, you will find that some days you will tolorate certain foods and other days it will make you ill, thats just how it goes, also Make sure you get in your protien everyday, I have a hard time with the protien drinks and still do but it's really important to get in at least 60 mg a day now if not more. I used carb solutions from Wal-mart they have 21 gms a can. Oatmeal seemed to be a fav. for my lil pouch it always soothes the tummy.Dont forget to walk at least 30 minutes a day! Best of Luck to you God Bless! May all your dreams come true for you!

Lets see my first month out was quite an experience. I didnt try watermelon but I wish I had because it has become a staple for me now. I lost 22 pounds my first month so I think I did really good. Eggs did the same thing to me when I first ate them and I still have a problem with scrambled eggs dont know why, they always feel heavy in my stomach to me. I have lost 71 pounds so far and am at my clothes goal of a size 6-8 so if I dont loose another pound I will be very happy. Since I'm only 4 months out my surgeon thinks I will get way smaller than he or I even recognized which is kinda scary for me because I dont want to get really small. I cant eat anything with more than 4 to 5 gms of sugar per serving, I dump on anything with too much sugar and also dump on fat, so no fried foods for me or anything high in fat. Sounds like you are doing pretty well, and please dont get used to eating sugar, just cut that out right now it can lead to awful things!! Smooches to you hon and welcome to the losing side! ~Nicole

I agree that the first month or 2 i**** and miss, trial and error. Most important, get your liquids in....you do not want to get dehydrated and you want to give a chance for your tummy to heal. And stay away from the sugar as much as possible. Go by the diet the dr gave you. drink, drink, drink and walk walk walk

Do yourself a favor, get off the sugar right away. If you can tolerate it now, it will make you weight loss even harder. Try mashed potatoes with gravy, it worked well for me in the beginning. We were on pureed food for 6 weeks out here, I no some doctors don't do that, but, be careful in what you are eating. It well make it difficult later to keep the weight off. I also ate cream of wheat w/ peanut butter in it for added protien. it was wonderful and went down real easy. Eat slow and take up to 30 to 45 min. to eat in thebeginning. Yes, it does get better. Hang in there. If you have any further questions I will try to help/. Marilyn, the bearlady 3/15/04 82 lbs gone

Heeeyyy Ms. Machado!!! How are ya! Eggs were really hard for me at first... what am I saying.. they are still hard for me to eat! ;) some sugar I can tolerate while some I cant. This pouch is definitely weird! Glad to see you are doing well. I would ask the doc about the breathing. I didnt have any breathing problems... well aside from getting dehydrated and short of breath if I walked across the room!! Make sure you get them liquids in! I was sore and all but it wasnt so bad. The worst part (for me) was that I had to give myself needles in the stomach to prevent blood clots. now THAT sucked! but aside from that I was sore and tired for awhile. I would definitely get off that sugar as quick as possible because it leads to big time hunger cravings. Well it did and still does for me at least. I notice that if I have too much sugar the hunger pangs just hit me full force. Thats tough because you want to just gobble everything up because of the "feeling" you have and you just cant! but thats a good thing! Best of luck to ya! keep in touch Elizabeth M (machado) -76lbs
