I've never been someone who eats breakfast in the morning. I'm just not a morning person in general. I've found that if I buy the Advant edge or Atkins premade shakes I can have one of them for breakfast... I feel full and I am getting all kinds of nutrition. Has anyone else done this? Any good or bad things I need to know about?

Hello Shiela, I am the same way, I cant eat till noon most days, But I always have a shake for breakfast and my vitamins, then my coffee and around noon I have a light breakfast, usually an egg and a slice of toast, oatmeal or 3 cubes of cheddar cheese, with 3 ritz crackers. I cant eat low fat cheese it makes me so sick. For lunch I usually have chicken/ham in the can with a tbls. low fat mayo wrapped in 6-7 baby spinache leaves goes down well and is great tasting. just thought I would share, dinner is usually whatever I make for the family but mostly greans n salads now with protien first always, for a snack I have a few strawberries, with whipped topping Yummmy! I have been slacking off on the water lately, but I drink alot of flavored tea's all day long now.I cant even look at cottage cheese or yogurt anymore.... stay healthy and God Bless Mary -80 pounds

I know some docs don't like it, but my own perspective is that if you aren't getting your protein requirements in otherwise, and you are using it as a meal replacement, it really doesn't matter. In fact, they are usually so loaded with vitamins I rather think it's a good thing. Dina

Hi - On mornings I don't feel like eating, I have a protein shake. I don't think that could be a bad thing. I haven't tried the Advant edge or Atkins, but as long as the protein level is high and the sugar is low, you should be good to go. Dee

I use the Worldwide Protein shake. 35 g protein and 3 g of carbs. It's the best I've seen. You can get it at Vitamin Shoppe, GNC, or online. The shake is my breakfast. At lunch I have meat and vegetables and at dinner I have meat and vegetables. Between lunch and dinner I'll have a piece of fruit. Good luck, Jen

HI, My doc is one of those that doesn't believewe should drink the shakes He thinks there too much like regular ice cream shakes and w e get away from learning how to eat. However, I still drink on eonce in awhile also as I can't always eat in the a.m. either. If it works for you, I don't think it will make a difference in anything. I only *WISH* they tasted like ice cream shakes. I don't think he's tried them personally - or he wouldn't be afraid. On the scale from barium shakes to ice cream shakes, ok, they're closer to ice cream... but I don't think anybody's in danger of getting addicted to them. Yuck! Jen

My doc's suggestions was to actually drink one shake per day AS a meal replacement. So I've pretty much had my shakes for breakfast since I started eating after surgery So far it works for me... Karla 215/160/135???

Hi Sheila, I drink the Syntrax Nectars. My favorites are Strawberry-Kiwi and Roadside Lemonade. All I do is mix a scoop with 8 ozs. of water and add some crushed ice. It tastes like kool-aid! There are 23 grams of protein and 90 calories. There are no carbs or fat. I drink one first thing in the morning around 6:30 or 7:00 am. and one right before bed around 11:00 or 11:30 pm. You have to remember...our bodies only absorb 30 grams of protein in a two hour period. In addition to the two protein drinks, I still have my three meals a day. Breakfast is usually a scrambled egg or banana yogurt which I have around 10 am. At lunch I usually eat salad and fruit or meat and vegatable around 1:30. At dinner, I have meat and vegtable around 6:30. I do usually have a snack around 8:30 or 9:00 which consists of SF jello or pudding with Light Cool Whip or a SF popcicle. By rights (according to my doctor, anyway) we're suppose to be eating between 6 and 8 meals a day and only 2 ozs. at a time. Well, my body needs 4 to 6 ozs. at a time but I only have 3 meals so I'm pretty much in line with the total number of ounces. Hope this helped!
