ok supporters i need some help
i had my surgey on 3/29 and thus far i have lost 61 lbs. i went from 248 to 187 and i am loving it but the problem is i do not eat properly i was reading some one saying they crave salt and vinegar chips...............i just finished a bag
all the things that my doc said i prob wouldnt tolerate are my best meals like i was never a rice eater and now i fiend for rice morning noon and night but only with mojito on it (garlic oil) and although i have never had an issue with dumping which i still dont really know what that is i wonder if i am pushing it......there r certain things that if i smell im throwing up but other than that i eat almost everything i ate b-fore my another prob. that i have ia that sometimes when i eat my mouth fills up with so much saliva that i have to constantly spit to keep from hurling and i want to know is this the norm or what my doc precribed something for it but it makes my mouth feel like im licking sand and i very rarely use it...........if there is any one out there who can help me please do so

My advice is to get away from the rice, ASAP. It's empty calories, and carbohydrates make you hungier for more carbohydrates. You don't mention eating protein or vegetables - you should focus on protein first and then when you get enough (approx 65g/day depending on who you ask) have some vegetables.
You also don't mention if you're excercising - you've got to move, too. Working your muscles is what keeps your metabolism up. It also helps relieve stress, aids sleep quality, improves circulation, and curbs apetite.
The only time my mouth waters is when I have eaten too much or eaten something that doesn't agree. I vomit very infrequently (four times since surgery) but mouth watering for me is the signal that I might be going to vomit.
If possible, I'd recommend that you get involved either with your doctor's or any other local support groups. It will help you get a 'real person' to talk to, possibly an excercise buddy, and maybe give you new ideas for foods, too.
Good luck,
jen
ty for your advice and yes i do exercise me and my husband we excercise 4 times a wekk and i ride my bike around the track once a week. i get around and all my test can back great as far as protein and all i just cant get into a good eating routine i dont do well with most fruits and as far as veggies i eat those as well but how much can u eat? i dont eat no more than four spoon fuls of whatever i eat i just cant seem to get away from the rice thing. i dont eat sweets i drink plenty of water i should maybe see my dietician and see what she can come up with. and my appetite is horrible because i do not get hungry at all i can go all day and not eat a thing but i know thats not good so i try to eat but nothing really agrees but rice..............
Venus,
61 pounds is a great weight loss. Congratulations on that. I am worried that you're not getting in enough protein. You didn't mention any and that's got to be the thing that goes in first. What have you tried as far as protein goes? My doctor's plan doesn't ban carbs, but says to limit them to one bite for every three bites of protein.
As far as the saliva - My dietician explained it like this: We now have very little stomach acid. That's OK for the most part because saliva contains acid that helps with digestion. If you are hydrated enough, your mouth will produce the right amount of acid when you chew your food. If you are not hydrated enough, when the food hits your stomach, your stomach will send up a signal to produce more saliva to help with the digestion process. What I was told is that about an hour to 45 minutes before you eat, make sure you get in A LOT of water. Stop drinking 1/2 hour before you eat. Since I've done this, I haven't had any more saliva attacks.
I hope this helps.

Hi Venus! Remember this is only a tool and you can regain your weight back. It is very possible to eat around the surgery. We have a great tool dont we? We can always use it to our advantage. Hey I ate a bag of those salt and vinegar chips yesterday. I thought "hey only a couple" granted the bag lasted me about 2 hours but still. I know its a no no
so if we remember this and realize that its a treat and only do it like...once in a while then I think its alright. We still have to practice moderation and such. As for the saliva... Oh girl I get that alot...its all part of dumping...Also I had read this once and giggled when it happened to me... Your nose will sometimes drip!!! Yep its all part of the dumping from eating too fast and such. I dumped like that yesterday from cream of wheat (go figure) I eather put a little too much butter... or ate too fast?? but I was sitting there and started to feel nauseous and then my nose started to drip!!! then it was ON! I felt like crap! and I couldnt
because it already passed through my pouch... so there was no relief and then BAM the exhaustion hit. wooooo I was just about out!
I didnt think I was gonna make it (thought I was going to have to go home!) But I did and it passed I drank a little bit of coffee and that helped alot. Maybe the saliva is just from eating too fast? or just that it doesnt agree with you much. It happens to me often. I can be half way through my meal and it will hit me the mouth watering up and then the nausea. I would ask the doc what his thoughts are about whats causing it other than possible dumping. Like Happy said you definitely want to be hydrated! That could also be my problem...I am not getting in enough water maybe. Its crazy all the changes our bodies are going through isn't it? And the hickups just crack me up. Usually after I drink something I get the high pitched single LOUD hickup!
too much. I hope you start feeling better. Chin up we're here for ya ((hugs))
