Chicken
Just wondering if y'all have had any problems eating chicken. Prior to WLS, I'm the one that kept my Chick-fil-A in business! And I've seen that chicken and steak are the 2 best protein sources for us. Steak has treated me well but I'm struggling with chicken.
Today I had a few bites of chargrilled chicken (yes, from Chick-fil-A) but when I have chicken from any other source, cooked any other way, it makes my stomach turn.
Maybe it's just me. How about you? And one other thing, about the only thing I can find to eat in a fast food place is Wendy's chili. There really isn't anything else I can eat comfortably.

I cant believe you are eating steak that is so hard on my stomache before surgery i really dont want to try it now, im glad you can though its good protein. Chicken is ok for me i guess. The best things that i can get down are beef jerky and tacos. I have found today that everything that has gone in will not sit good so it must be one of those days.
Karel,
Chicken is a fair weather friend I can tolerate it better now than a month ago, but still not my fav. Pork works the best for me.
How do you do with refried beans? That's a good choice from Taco Bell. The other thing I get at Taco Bell is a Chicken Enchirito. I just scrape off the tortilla. How about a steak soft taco - just dump the tortilla. Boston Market turkey has been a life saver. They'll serve you a slice of turkey for about a buck. I've pulled the breading off of fish and shrimp at Long John Silver's. I take it that you can't eat salad yet. Almost every place has a salad with grilled chicken these days.

Karel,
I totaly relate. Chicken is not my friend. I used to love it but it does not love me back anymore. I have absolutly no problem with steak however I have a realy hard time with ground beef, go figure. I have found a chicken subsitute from the health food store that is made by Quorn it is a meat free product that tastes like chicken and my pouch will put up with it just fine.

Kind of funny - I couldn't hack chicken or eggs while pregnant, and the one thing I noticed was that I felt some of the same aversions after the surgery as I did while I was pregnant....EXCEPT for the chicken. I have pretty much lived on chicken since about 2 weeks post op. In one way shape or form I have some sort of poultry, be it chicken or turkey.
I still cannot handle eggs though. For some reason they really stick in my throat and give me a heavy gag reflex.
One of my favorite ways to have chicken is to get the roasted chicken at Costco. That is the very best and moistest chicken I have ever had. Yum!!!

I actually had a blockage with chicken and it was very unpleasant. I, too, loved it pre-surgery. I find I can eat ground turkey really well -- I do patties and also mix it with dark kidney beans and chicken stock for a sort of chili. I also can do Cornish game henm not cooked any special way but I am careful not to overcook it. Amazing you can eat steak. I'm scared to try it. Have you tried refried beans? I put them in a corn tortilla (I'm afraid flour will bunch in the pouch). I also eat salmon and other seafood (not big shrimp, had a blockage with that), but I live in CA where I can get really good fish.
I was a frequent Chick-Fil-A customer as well (and still - unfortunately - keep them in biz by buying sweet tea - my weakness almost every day. I have found that chicken is generally not good in my pouch. That is, unless it's very moist. I have a great recipe for chicken that marinates in a combo of lemon juice, sour cream, worcheshire, and seasonings. You then dredge the chicken in stuffing mix (for crunch) and bake it. It's the "friendliest" chicken recipe I've discovered so far. I'd be happy to share it with anyone if interested. It's really easy and SO yummy! I can do Tyson breaded Chicken Tenders (from Sam's). I usually pour some Buffalo sauce on them prior to cooking them and have a side of Blue Cheese. I can eat two of them without problems.
I've not done well with beef either. It kind of sits in my pouch like a giant hairball. I can do things like Pasta Fagoli soup and chili, but that's the extent.
My DH got a new grill for Father's Day, so he's doing ribs later on today (pork), so I"m hoping that'll work for me.
Fish has been my staple. I'm not a big fish fan - except for sushi (go figure). But I've been trying some fish recipes. I can hack it if it's not too fishy, so I've been buying stuffed fish filets from the fish section at the grocery store. So far, so good, but still not a big fan of fish unless it's fried.
Good luck and keep trying different things!
