Rob can talk!
Hi everyone,
I had a wonderful weekend with Rob - he can talk now! It is absolutely amazing! His voice came back in just one day. He doesn't remember anything about ICU and to him just a few days have gone by. I can't imagine how disorienting that must be.
Other milestones this miraculous weekend: He stood up for the first time, and is feeding himself! I took him outside in the wheelchair both days - the weather was beautiful. It is like everything is finally coming together for him.
The plan now is to transfer him to our local hospital in Anacortes next week. With home nursing care he might even be able to go home soon after that. It isn't over yet, he will have to go back to Seattle for surgery on his bed sore eventually, but the doctors feel it would be good for him to get out of the hospital for a while. I am impressed that they are thinking of the whole person and not just fixing "body parts."
Rob is on an inflatable bed and has a wound vac on his bed sore. Other than building up his strength, the bed sore is the last battle for this amazing warrior to win.
Maybe you can imagine how wonderful it felt to hear him say hello when I walked into the room Saturday morning.
P.S. To Rob's angel Joy - Rob asked about you! Maybe we can get you two on the phone together soon. That would be great.
I am probably going to spend all week recovering from the extreme emotion of this weekend. WOW!
Kat
P.S. Happy Summer Solstice!
