How do you set goals?

How do you set goals for yourself using your new tool for weightloss? I am trying to set some reasonable goals but I am struggling with HOW to do that...I have tried and either BLOW past them without trying or fall very short? So is there a strategy you use to set your goals? OBVIOUSLY I want to loose 100 pounds in 6 months and that does seem reasonable but that seems to be such a long time from now! I like shorter term goals that are easier to see in my mind's eye, Does that make any sense? thanks, Nic 291-228-137?

I m wary of setting Pound goals. I had my surgery on 3-17 and weighed very close to your weight and have lost 60 lbs. Two weeks ago I lost 6 pounds, this week I lost 1. It is so unpredictable. I am making goals such as exercising 7 hours a week and lifting weights three times a week, not snacking, getting enough protein, enough water, etc. I feel like if I am doing what I am supposed to, I will lose the weight, not on my schedule, but on my body's schedule.

Nicole, I set small incremental goals with no deadline. Pre-surgery, everytime I set a goal to lose X amount of weight by such and such a date, I missed the mark, felt like a huge failure and quit the diet. This time I'm just looking at 10 pound increments, but with no deadline. I've already been successful 6 times!! I'm also setting size goals for one size smaller or maybe it's more like getting rid of the size I'm in. The size 24 and 22 clothes are out the door. Next I'll be hauling out the 20's. I can fit into size 18's, but I'm measuring this particular success when I can no longer wear a size because it's just too big. Now having said all that, I'd love to be at or below 200 pounds by my birthday on July 22nd. It's attainable, but I haven't really set it as a goal because I don't want to go into a funk if I don't make it. My doctor, her nurse and I all have differing ideas about my goal weight. I've just decided to see where I land at the end. LOL You asked what time it was and I told you how to build a watch. Sorry about that. Connie

Thanks for the replies. I have decided that my goal for the summer is going to be exercising 4x aweek and getting my protein in. I have no trouble with the fluid but the protein somedays is HORRIBLE! I would also LOVE to be out of the 200's when I go back to school and thats only 27 pounds so maybe but i won't be heartbroken ya know...the whole clothing sizes thing amazes me...I went to Avenue to try on some stuff and 16's fit! Then went to Fashion Bug and tried on some stuff and 18's were tight...LOL My very sweet mother said "maybe you are just bloated now!" uhm...its been 1/2 hour Mom I don't think so! oh well what ever size it is, It is certainly smaller than size 26! WOOHOO!!! ~NIC 291/228/137?

I'm one step further out. My surgeon and I decided to not even set a final goal weight. Why? Because I'm not built on the standard model. I was a football lineman and I'm still going to be a big guy even if I lose all the extra weight. I have a large amount of muscle mass, a large frame (no, I'm not saying I'm big boned. ), and very short legs for my height. As a result, the 'ideal' weight scale is completely inaccurate for me. Instead of a goal weight, we're aiming for healthy. We're going to go more on the body fat percentage than just weight. I'm weird, I know. I do have one goal, though. I'd like to get under 220 so I can hit the rollercoasters at the parks in the region. They've imposed a 6' 2"/220 pound limit at most parks. Eric C. (3 months ago, today)
