Pondering Potential Pouch Problems

You all have become a habit for me...I was sitting at my desk at work today surrounded by plenty to do, and all I could think of was that I had to get to this site to "visit" with all of you. Only I didn't know how to find you from my work computer (I have this Board in my favorites at home and so you are all just a click away). Life has become so busy since I went back to work that I don't have nearly as much time to spend catching up with everyone here. Anyway, just my way of saying how much you all mean to me! Thanks. Reenie's teeny wonder isn't so wonderful these days. I have had my first couple of dumping episodes after being completely complication-free for 3 months. Suddenly, I am experiencing tremendous pain when I eat, followed by that saliva thing that happens just before you throw up -- and I make a bee line to the bathroom. Even happened on my scrambled egg this morning, which has never bothered me since surgery. I'm afraid to eat anything anymore. Is anyone else experiencing super changes with their pouches this far post-op? Oh, I'm also in a plateau, first one in several weeks -- and it just won't budge. I find myself wondering if life will ever be normal for me -- not that it ever has been....the painful pouch syndrome has me worried. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks. Maureen

Hi, Sorry you are having problems. I suggest you call your surgeon asap. Sounds like a stricture to mel. I have this problem all the time. Good luck. Grins, Kaye

By the way, A stricture is treatable and is not difficult to treat. Grins, Kaye

Hi Maureen! So nice to see your beautiful face again! I had pouch woes last week for the first time in a long time. One night, I couldn't even hold down water. I went back to liquids the next day and it got better, though Bundy was still a little sore. When I went in for my check up on Friday, I asked about it. They told me that eating too fast or even drinking water too fast will sometimes cause the pouch to get irritated and swell. I think that's probably what happened with me. I did chug some water and it came right back up soon after. The nurse's recommendation was to go back to liquids for a day or two until it calmed down. I still maintain that Bundy is trying to kill me, but I will prevail. Hugs, Connie

No pouch problems yet, knock wood. I'm sorry you are having them though! As for finding the board at work, just go to obesityhelp.com and then when you see the sign in page, just go below that and it will have the link to the main board. From there you will see the links at the top for WLS reunion. Look for March 04 and you are there! Dina

I am having the very same problems you are. I am so afraid to eat for I get this very bad pain that hurts. The doc told me the same thing, either I am eating too fast or eating to much. I hate this painful pouch.

Hi Maureen, I have had the stricture problem and since the second dialation I feel great. Crossing fingers and toes that this continues. First was this an isolated incident? I know that when I was throwing up it was evrytime I ate or drank anything over 2 oz. It was very frustrating at the time cause I wasn't over eating. We all have to listen to over bodies talk to us. Whether we are eating or exercising it does tell us to stop. I am learning to eat slower and NOT to push myself. The second I get that feeling and my mouth froths up I stop. Hope this helps. Shelly

Hiya Maureen, I feel the same way as you do regarding how much you guys mean to me Its so nice to be able to log on and read all the interesting posts and wonderful support. You go get that pain checked out by your surgeon. Don't wait ok? May be what the others are saying and could be a stricture... but never wait if you are having pain...number 1 rule of us wls patients! anything can happen. I hope its alright and nothing serious. I have noticed that I am getting nauseous alot more with things. More sugar sensitive I suppose. Which is good but I think I am getting nauseous more than usual. I got nauseous off a piece of cheese yesterday and that worried me a bit. I dont want to end up getting nauseous over EVERYTHING I eat... thats a bit much. Hope you are feeling better soon... oh and I am at a little plateau now also... but I slacked on my protein a bit... ran out gotta get some more Elizabeth M
