confessions of a glutton

Today I took my kids to six flags and I ended up consuming around 1650 calories today - way too many calories for post wls. I have been feeling terribly guilty - in perspective, I know I would have probably consumed 3500+ calories before so I ate less then half, but I still feel horribly guilty, like I sabotaged myself today. They say confession is good for the soul, so I just wanted to get that off my chest, since its too late to get it off my pouch. -Sherrie

Sherrie, First of all, stop beating yourself up for this. That's dieting mentality and I don't know about you, but diet thinking is what got me to the MO category to start with. Second, remember that tomorrow is a brand new start. What's in the past just does not matter. Third, guilt is useless. Don't let it mar the wonderful time that you had today. Remember the great time you had with your kids and rejoice in the thought that you probably wouldn't have had the energy to do this pre-surgery. If you still feel guilty tomorrow, do an extra hour of aerobic activity and consider yourself absolved of guilt. Hugs, Connie

Sherrie, I bet you did more walking than usual! On days of taking my kids to adventure parks, their joy overrides my exercise and dieting needs. With all the walking at Six Flags, I lose my appetite anyway. I was very surprised on a recent trip that my kids lasted ALL day! Know what else? I even splurged on Dippin' Dots ice cream for myself!! We do deserve to enjoy life now that we have more energy to do so. Keep your chin up and look forward to the next trip! Karel

Hi Sherrie: Don't dwell on the guilt of overeating, but do compensate for it. For the next 3 days eat enough fewer calories to add up to whatever you overate. This is how thin people do it. They may eat too much for a day or two but then they balance it out by the end of the next 3 days. By the time you balance it out, the overeating is only a past thing and you have all the fun to remember. Just don't skip the balancing part. Louise

I don't think anyone ever gained weight eating 1650 calories in a day, so just relax & know that today is a new day!

Thank you ALL for your feedback - I feel so much better!! I will replace 2 of my meals today with protein shakes and consider myself good to go. And yall are right - I wouldnt have had the energy to walk around the theme park all day with my kids before surgery. Thanks for helping me put everything into perspective!! -Sherrie

I'll give you my 'better choices MOST of the time lecture' at the support group next week. My surgeon says we need to live a NORMAL life...which would include a splurge every now and then. It's just those daily splurges that get us. So, just do the right things today and don't give 6flags another thought.

Wait until tomorrow... you may get on the scale and find you lost 2 lbs! I have been on a plateau for the last 3 weeks. I went to the movies to see Harry Potter with my kid and ate 1/2 of small bag of popcorn and a bunch of other stuff I normally wouldn't eat and when I got on the scale the next day I dropped 3 lbs!. I think I was in starvation mode and the huge boost in calories was what I needed to kick start the weight loss. Go figure! Aristea

And sometimes we do need a big old carb boost to start the weight loss happening again...trick the body into thinking it's gonna start eating like it used to so it can let go of some of that fat.
