Nothing Tastes Good...Feeling Weak...

It's been about 2 1/2 months since my surgery. Nothing seems to taste good or digest good. Therefore, I end up not eating. I have 1 or 2 protein drinks every day, but other than that, I nibble on something and feel so sick! I don't throw-up, but I'm not eating. The last few days I've been feeling so weak, dizzy and running in to walls. I feel so depressed! I know I need to eat, but I can't. I feel sick.... I just want to lay down and cry... Anyone else feeling this way?

Dear Shirley: You should not be feeling this way and you should be able to eat. Please contact your doctor right away and explain your problems. Just one question are you eating good tasty fresh food when you do try to eat? I find that processed foods don't taste very good, but fresh fish and steamed veggies are wonderful. Hope you feel better. Louise

Hi Shirley, I'm 12 weeks out and I feel exactly the way you do.I don't throw up either just nothing tastes good at all. Everything feels really heavy going down.I chew it well just hate the feeling so like you I dont eat much. I went to doctors yesterday he said he thinks its pchyological because from 4 to 9 weeks I could eat anything. He said that I just don't want to feel the nausea feeling thats why I won't eat.He told me to go talk to the nutritionist. Now the only thing that seems to go down well is Wendy,s chili, crab and watermelon. I have woken up in the middle of the night shaken and dizzy. It is so weird now I went from one extreme binge eating to not wanting to eat at all.I have been forcing food in the last week because we really do need it.The nausea goes away.So really try to eat and call your doctor. Me too, me too...I feel the same way. The only thing I eat is beef jerky and tacos. Everything else just taste funny. I may take a bite or two but it just taste weird. I find im living on beef jerky and protein shakes with a taco thrown in when i can get to town.

The weakness and dizziness may be dehydration or anemia or critical shortage of a nutrient. Check your drinking as well as your food intake. Your body must have nutrients. Make sure you take your supplements. If you have to, eat small portions of protein foods frequently like medicine. Insist that your doctor or nutritionist help you through this. Request blood work to check for nutrient deficiencies. Most of all, do not ignore this--you can permanently damage your health! You should not be feeling this way! Your body is telling you something. I feel the same way, actually. I have one protein shake a day (46 grams of protein ~ cool!) and 2 cheese sticks about every day. I do try new things, but a lot of them make me terribly sick feeling and uncomfy, so I am just sticking with what I know for the most part. I am going to ask my coordinator about it and see if I should take it to my doc and suggest you do the same. ....it's still better than being hungry all the time and miserable for being so big, though, eh? Odd blessings to count, but blessings nonetheless.
