Just wondered how long your doctor said to wear your binder. Mine said for 6 months when active, then 6 more months when exercising. I am tired of it already. Just wondered. Donna -39

I only had to wear mine for 3-4 weeks, however I felt comfortable. I have been wth out ir for about 6 weeks, and I exercise 3 times a week with dumbells, and am doing just fine. Follow your doctor's orders, but I just wanted to answer your question. Cathy 271/225/160

I was supposed to be 4 weeks but others said he used to say 6 weeks. I had to admit I quit at 3 weeks because it was hurting. Now I have a nice red scar and I wonder if it will fade or not! All my other scars fade to white but I'm not sure if this will. Dina

Wow! What a difference! My surgeon took mine from me when I was a week out. FWIW, -Marcie 275/243/135

Binder? I was never even given a binder. Ask your doctor if there is a way you can stop wearing it sooner.... Good luck! Leah

I wore mine for almost 6 weeks - I had an open procedure and my doctor told me that you recoup 70% wall strength in the first 6 weeks and then slowly increase to 100% strength by 2 years. For that reason, he said that it would make much difference wearing it between 6 weeks and 2 years for normal activity.

I find it interesting that evey doc has a different view on this much like everything else with WLS! My doc said wear the binder every day all the time until the two week check, then the next week he said only when walking then to not wear it unless doing a LOT of walking, he said patients get to dependent on them and over due it ya know??? Oh well, I kept it and did wear it the first day back to school. it got hot tho and OFF It came! never to return again... NIC~ -49 pounds

I still have to wear mine because my incision is not totally closed yet, and my Dr said that i have to wear it till it closes, sigh. My Next appt with him is june 17th and he said it should be healed before than. I sure hope so because i am getting way tired of wearing it, i even had to go out and buy another one cause i was washing it soo much the first one fell apart and those things aren't cheep. Ok i will stop running off at the mouth hehe. It is funny how all dr's are different with so many things. Ok ok i'm really done now. Amy

Mine strongly refused to let me have one. He said they interfere with developing muscle strength and make you liklier to develop hernias. Isn't it bizarre how much our doctors disagree? Somehow we live through it anyway! Joy -43 lbs

Thank you everyone. Interesting that doctors differ on so much of this aftercare. Thank again. Donna
