HI Sue The only bread I even attempt to do is a half an english muffin toasted very crispy. It goes down very well regardless what I put on it. I have this every now and then. What are your doctors instructions? Those are the ones to go by. I personally eat different things now. There are certain things I just cannot do but most things don't bother me. Right now I am on an egg drop soup kick. Soup for breakfast,lunch,snack....etc. It feels so good to my tummy and has protien!! I also LOVE the lean cusine "steak tips portabello". I have it ALOT. (Of course I can't eat it all but it tastes soooooo good!) I avoid sugar, I wont even try those foods with double digits!!! I haven't dumped but I have thrown up. I am eating just about everything. I haven't gotten sick from any foods i've tried. Though i guess i really haven't been that daring yet either. I have tried chicken ( boneless skinless chicken breast) and that went down fine, i've been craving tomato sauce so i made some chicken parm. I used shake n bake and baked the chicken and put some tomato sauce on it and some low fat mozz cheese and the one breast was lunch and dinner for 2 days. It was soo yummy. I also made roast in the crock pot with carrots i let it cook all day and by the time dinner came around it was sooo tender it fell apart when i was trying to take it out of the crock pot. I also have eaten healthy choice lunch meats ( roast beef, turkey, chicken and low fat cheese) with pickles. I am only aloud to eat 2 oz's at a time so i make sure i dont go over that and i chew chew chew. The only time that i have thrown up is when i ate to fast . I am not aloud to have bread or crackers or potatos or pasta or rice. I have tried some wheat bread toasted and it went down fine and i did try a little piece of a white roll and it got stuck i've given up on the breads though. My Dr said if you want a sandwich wrap your meats or what ever in a piece of lettus i tried it and it was pretty good. But for me right now i have to cut every thing up very very small it helps with my chewing and if i were to eat a sandwich and just bite it i know it would get stuck. For snacks i eat, fruit or string cheese or ricotta cheese or nuts or ff sf pudding hope that helped in some kinda way. Amy

If you want bread, get some of the high fiber bread. The coarser the texture, the less likely it is to roll in a ball and plug up your pouch. There is some good low carb bread that is high in fiber and whole grain. The whole grain causes a much slower dump of insulin than white bread which is less likely to trigger carb cravings or impact loss. Go slow--bread is basically empty calories, as far as the nutrition you need most--protein. Joy -43

I haven't had any bread (crackers or pasta either) - my doc says to stay away from the carbs for 6 months. I eat alot of ff refried beans with salsa mixed in, meatballs with sauce, tuna salad, egg salad. I don't cook much, but I do make a chicken parmegian that goes down well (most chicken does not) I boil a chicken breast, then when it's done, I take a fork and shred it. I take about 2 oz of shreds and make a "nest", top it with part skim mozzrella and some sauce The boiled chicken gives me no problems like other chicken does. It's much softer. mgm -43

Gosh...I guess every doctor has a different idea of what we should be doing. I'm allowed light bread, pasta, crackers. But I'm not allowed ANY foods that cause gas (beans, broccoli, cauli flower, eggs, etc) because according to my nutritionist the gas will expand your pouch and not let it heal properly. Of course I eat things they tell me not to. Everyone I know who had the surgery eats differently. It's kind of confusing. The one thing I'm doing though is eating healthy. Even if I eat something my doctor said I shouldn't it's something healthy...like the foods above. Oh well...I guess even though the doctors are finally understanding the surgery side of things the post-op is still kinda gray. Be good to yourself, Paola

If having gas expands your pouch, aren't we all doomed from the start? Because I had a KILLER case of gas after surgery? My doctor recommends fruit, vegs, a bit of meat...just a normal diet like normal people eat...only less of it.

I eat pretty much whatever I want. I absolutely do not eat sugar though. I haven't had anything with sugar in it and am afraid to try it. I am scared I will not dump and then those old demons would be back. I do occasionally eat sugar free hershey. I am craving cake though. I bought some splenda so maybe I will try to bake something if I get desperate enough. Anyway, today I had coffe then half an egg and half a slice of bacon for breakfast. For a snack I had my protein drink, then for lunch I had a couple ounces of chicken and a bite or two of lima beans, then I did have another snack which was a few (like 5 or 6) YES potato chips. Then for dinner I had a couple ounces of a T-bone steak and a bite of baked potato. That steak went down just great. It was absolutely delicious. I am so happy I tolerated it because I love steak. Couldn't eat much but I will be eating the rest of that steak for the next few days. I had dinner late, around 6:30 and am still full from it. Not overly full though. I never felt like I had to throw up or anything. Just not at all hungry. Usually I have another protein drink at night but am just too full tonight. ANyway, that is a typical day for me. I also eat healthy choice fudge bars. About once a day or once every day or two.I am going to work on limiting them and the chips though because I think it may be why I only lost 10lbs this past month. 49lbs total but still, 10lbs in one month isnt stellar. Hi I have a protein drink (20g protein) for breakfast every morning. For lunch/dinner I have had cheeseburger (no bread), cottage cheese, crab salad, tuna salad, or grilled chicken. (Not all in one day!) I have also had steak a lot which I love. Basically I can eat any kind of meat as long as I chew it really well. For vegetables I have had broccoli, cauliflower, corn and carrots. Also small amounts of salad. I had celery and dip last night. For snacks I have had 1/2 cup low carb Breyers ice cream, strawberries and cool whip, sf ff pudding and sf popsicles. I stay away from bread mostly but I have had a bite here and there with no problems. I average around 700-950 calories a day - between 80 and 100 grams of protein, 30-40 grams of carbs and 30- 50 grams of fat. Aristea -45
