5% off!
on June 24, 2008 5:27 pm
I've lost 5% of my body weight, and I don't care to find it again.

I weighed in at Dr. G's office and I am 217.4 lbs. That's 12.2 lbs down from my starting weight at his office, and over 17 lbs down from my highest weight.

I just need to get the psych eval and they will start the testing.

In the meantime, Dr. G would like me to lose the rest of the 20 lbs so that he will do the surgery. I'm sure I can get another 7.8 lbs off

I am going to call the psychiatrist's office tomorrow. Apparently she was supposed to call me, but she never did. Therefore, I got her number and will call her.

Weight gain, my foot!
on June 19, 2008 5:04 pm
Today I stepped on the scale for my at-work "Biggest Loser" contest...up half a pound! :( I'm now 220.5.

It could be due to the fact that my foot has been bothering me and I haven't been able to go on walks for the past few days...

X-rays were taken and it was discovered that one of my sesamoid bones (small bone in the ball of my foot) is split in two! It was hard to tell from the films, but the doc felt that it was not an acute fracture. He advised me that it could be either: 1) hereditary or 2) a stress fracture.

He put me on Naproxen, which just started to kick in today. I went for a walk in the afternoon, and my foot started to bother me half-way through. However, it's getting better.

I'm also starting to get cramps in my pelvic area, which I do every month when it's "that time." Therefore, I may have put on water weight. I just hope that it's off (plus some more) in time for my weigh-in at Dr. G's next week!

Things are looking up/pounds are going down
on June 12, 2008 3:24 am
It's been awhile since my last update, so here goes:

I had my consult with Dr. Graniero about two months ago. When I first weighed in, I was 229.6 lbs. I weighed in two days ago, I am now 221.6 lbs! Eight lbs down I am!

Although I had a slow start, I am losing it a lot more quickly now. Since my last weigh-in (three weeks ago), I have lost nearly 4 lbs. Before that, I was losing about 1-2 lbs every two weeks. The meeting with the nutritionist helped a lot, so did the change in weather.

The nutritionist did a great job of breaking down exactly what food groups to eat from and how many calories to eat from each group. My biggest downfall was the puddings. I was turning 100 calorie puddings into 400 and 500 calorie puddings!  It's very hard to eat just one! I had recently discovered the 60 calorie puddings; she advised me that I was allowed 180 "additional" calories a day, and to limit myself to that (180/60 = 3 puddings max a day).

I have also switched completely from white starches to wheat.

I drink a lot of water, flavoured with Walmart's version of Crystal Light (no calories, plus they make grape!)

I walk at work; at least once a day, aim for twice a day. The day of my weigh in it was hot and I walked on all three breaks (lunch and two 15 min breaks).

I bought new sneakers; this made a world of a difference! My old sneakers were two years old and beat up.

I go for my next weigh-in two weeks from now. I am hoping and praying I can start the testing.

There has been some confusion over how much weight I have to lose. The doctor told me at my initial consult that he would like me to lose 20 lbs. However, that is almost double the 5% that the office and the insurance companies require! Having PCOS makes it difficult enough to lose as it is; to make me lose even more seems ridiculous. However, the doc sees a lot of patients and may have read my chart wrong.

Tis all for now.

Phantom burning sensations
on February 13, 2008 3:09 pm
Lately I've been getting phantom, burning pain sensations. They usually occur when I think about WLS. They started occuring on the right and left side of my neck, and now I also get them in my belly.

I feel they are psychic in nature and represent they areas where I will be having some kind of tube / catheter; the neck the central line (see previous journal entry) and the belly the JP drain.

I also feel this is my body's way of preparing my for a future WLS.

Other news: I was weighed in at work and gained three pounds. :( I think it was because I wasn't feeling good last week and didn't get to exercise. I am already back on track and took two walks today. :)
