After searching for the last 8 years for an insurance company to cover my gastric bypass, I have finally decided to have WLS in Costa Rica and pay out-of-pocket. I am in the healthcare field, so of course some of my co-workers think I am crazy! I feel good about my decision, I am working with a great hospital coordinator, I have researched this for over a year and the facility where I am choosing to have my procedure done is JCI accredited (like JACHO here in the US). I recieved an e-mail from the coordinator last week saying my consult will be June 17th, where the surgeon will review all my tests and labs, then the surgery will be on June 18th!!! I feel like I am making a great decision for both my future and the future of my family. I am a little nervous about everything working out ok, but I am trying to place that in God's hands. It doesn't seem real yet, and it probably won't until I am either on the plane to Costa Rica or going into the OR!!! I can't wait!!!
