I know this is a bit off subject but since I've had my surgery I've been having strange symptoms in one of my ears.  ENT dr said it could be meniere's disease.  I've done some reading, does anyone have it?  I would like to know how it effects you.  Thanks

I have had it for over 20 years.  I am having a episode right now.  I have ear pain, actually it it muscle pain around the ear and and dizziness.  I take pain meds every 4 hours, and allergy meds during this time.  I also always have a high allergies just before an episode everytime.

Do you have funky hearing?  I.e., alot of times especially if a noise is close or loud and high pitched it sounds like I can hear the vibration of the sound waves, almost as in a robot speaking.  When did you start having the episodes?  I'm only 30 and I'm scared I will be disabled, I get the "tilted" feeling when it is bad.

I was in my early twenties when I started having my 3 day drunks I called them.  I would loose hearing in the ear that hurts and the hearing generally returns but I don't hear well out of that ear anymore.  I would describe the hearing as if I was under water, or had water in my ears.  I was 27 when I was finally diagnosed with it.  I was so afraid it was MS.  I ususally have one or two episodes a year.  The first two years after wls I had it more often, and asked my pcp why and we figured it was too much salt.  I was snacking on nuts (almonds and pistachios) so since I have cut those out I haven't had as much trouble.  Back to 2 times a year...always during change of seasons, or allergies.

My mother has this disease and the biggest issue has been balance problems.  She's off balance almost all the time and has to be very careful walking.  Since it is a progressive disease she has lost most of her hearing in her left ear too.  Unfortunately you don't get that back.  She's taken a few meds for it, but never really helped.
